In the Canary islands, you will have the consideration of handicraft, the economic activity that involves the production, transformation or restoration of property value artistic, functional, traditional, or through processes with predominantly manual intervention, and without the use of auxiliary machinery lose its nature as a final product manufactured and individualized.
The activity craft is classified into the following groups:

  • Traditional arts and crafts.
  • Artistic craftsmanship.
  • Craft of the production of consumer goods.
  • Craft services.

To obtain such account, the activity must be included in the Repertoire of Crafts established by the Government of the Canary islands. This Repertoire includes the relationship of craft trades that are in effect.

The rating of artisan is voluntary and will be given to those individuals with character usual do an activity included in the Repertoire of Crafts of the Autonomous Community of the Canary islands, and who meet the requirements and regulatory conditions that collects the Decree 176/2005, of 20 July, consisting, basically, of having been one of the offices in the Repertoire for a year, with professional training and proper to have a workshop to develop the craft, with production intended for sale.

For those craftsmen who wish to obtain the card, the requirements are the following:

  1. Have exercised for at least a year any of the offices of the Repertoire of Crafts.
  2. Have personal intervention and direct, and to know all the phases of execution of the work.
  3. Have a workshop with the necessary conditions to develop the craft, with production intended for sale, which may be accessed by the technical staff of the Cabildo Insular corresponding to the verification of those conditions.
  4. Have the training appropriate professional.
  5. Reside on the island in which it requests the card artisan.

The card Artisan is an administrative document that accredits the condition of craftsman in the terms set out in the autonomous regulation applicable to the Government of the Canary islands and the Local Authorities in the canary islands; that is to say, that its owner makes a trade artisan recognized in the Repertoire of Crafts of the Canary islands with production intended for sale and it is not an accreditation status of knowledge in order to exercise an office craftsman or an authorization to carry out a business activity.

To certify the condition of “craftsman” to Autonomous and Local Administrations of the Canary islands, and benefit from the support measures for the sector that may be established, as may be grants or training.
Specifically, the possession of the card artisan allows you to:

  • Use the adjective craftsman with the Public Administration.
  • To have access, in their case, the marks of quality or warranty craft and the id badges of origin established by Counseling competent to the Government of the Canary islands and/or the Cabildo Insular.
  • Be eligible to the benefits, grants and subsidies to the artisans.
  • Participate in Fairs organized by the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, provided that they meet the requirements established in the bases of each call.
  • Possibility of having as a point-of-sale, the Company's stores Insular de Artesanía, SA, belonging to the Fit of Tenerife.

Nothe card artisan only allows you to prove to the Public Administrations of the Canary islands that the business activities carried out corresponds with a skill included in the Repertoire of Crafts Artisans in the Canary islands.

To exercise any activity of a business, it is essential to register in the Census of Entrepreneurs, Professionals and Retainers (with the models 036 or 037), under the Special Regime for Self-employed Workers and perform the necessary steps for the opening of his workshop production and point of sale itself, in your case.

Provided that you comply with tax obligations and Social Security in place, there is no legal impediment for an entrepreneur to exert an ex officio included in the Repertoire of Crafts. However, it would not be recognized as a craftsman, or could benefit from the support measures for the sector established in our Autonomous Community (participation in Fairs, grants, training, etc), or may be able to identify your product labeling it with the mention "Artesanía Canaria".

The application period of the card artisan opens twice a year prior notice will be published in:

The application of the identification card of craftsman will be presented by an application addressed to the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, and in order to prove the fulfillment of the requirements for the recognition of the status of craftsman in the Autonomous Community of the Canary islands, that instance will be accompanied by the following documentation:

  • Application form.
  • Attested photocopy of the D. N. I. o N. I. F. of the applicant, in your case.
  • Two passport sized photos.
  • Certificate of residence or registration of the city council as appropriate.
  • Supporting documentation for development, for at least one year, of the trade, provision of workshop and production intended for sale.

The craft developed must be understood in the Repertoire of Crafts Artisans in the Canary islands in force. You can demonstrate this point by bringing this Memory of the activity craft developed by the applicant, as well as photographs of the workshop or place of work and the artisanal production, for which a case can be made to original photographs, printed from a digital format (maximum size sheet DIN A4 sufficient quality) or directly in a digital format to a proper resolution for your display.
In addition, you must provide this Affidavit or certified copy of the register in the Census of Entrepreneurs, Professionals and Withholders in the activity and in the Special Regime for Self-employed Workers

  • Supporting documentation of all activities and academic degrees or professional listed on the application.
  • Documents relating to the marketing of their products.

The application is presented in the General Registry of the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife, or in any of the ways provided for in the legislation of the common administrative procedure.

Decree 320/2011, 1 December, which establishes the definition of the crafts of the Canary islands and approved the contents of the tests to access the condition of a craftsman, which will allow you to determine the level of knowledge of the craft.

The content of the tests that have to surpass the applicants to demonstrate their training and access to the condition of a craftsman, are defined for each job included in the Repertoire of Crafts.
Each job is described by addressing the definition, production processes, raw materials used, the tools used and processed products, as well as the content and the type of tests required for obtaining the card artisan.

Example:
DRESSMAKER: A person who makes dresses, women mainly, that fit closely to a particular measurements.
Description of the production process: Starting from the design, the following steps are taken:

  1. Take action.
  2. Construction of the pattern.
  3. Marking of the fabric.
  4. Court.
  5. Mounting or assembly of the different parts that make up the garment.
  6. First test on the model.
  7. Correction.
  8. Second test.
  9. Stitched definitive.
  10. Ironing.

Products: All kinds of garments.
Materials: Tissues of different classes, zippers, buttons, hooks, threads, tapes, interlining, soap, dial, and paper for patterns.
Tools: Sewing machine, rules, scissors, needles, pins, thimble, tape measure, iron, table, etc
Review:
Knowledge test:

  • To answer a questionnaire about the business that will be facilitated by the court.

Practical test:

  • Do the patterns of a size to provide for the court of two garments to choose between a skirt, blouse, shirt or pants.
  • Make one marked for the better use of the fabric.
  • To make the cut and construction of both garments using the system of pattern base.
  • Perform in a piece of cloth a demonstration of the mastery of the main points of sewing.

The maximum resolution of this procedure will be of 6 months, being estimatorios the effects of administrative silence.

No. The card artisan will have a validity of four years. However, it can lose its validity by:

  • The death of the owner.
  • By renunciation or abandonment of the activity.
  • By expiration.

After these four years will be necessary to perform its renewal. For the renovation of the identification card will be required to stay in the exercise of the activity for which he was awarded the same.
